Applied Technology

English as a Second Language

The School of Applied Technology ESL classes are open-entry, open-exit, competency-based (non-credit). Therefore, we accept new students throughout the semester on a weekly basis.

We offer daytime classes at South City and Taylorsville Redwood Campuses for a total of 20 hours per week Monday through Thursday, and evening classes at South City Campus for a total of 16 hours per week Monday through Thursday.

Students are placed according to their CASAS scores, a test given at the time of application and registration.

GED Test Preparation

The GED Test Preparation course is designed for individual student study to prepare for the GED exam. Re source material is available for individual lessons and practice in the tested areas of mathematics, writing skills, social science, science, and interpreting literature and the arts. Reading and test-taking tips are presented in the course to lessen test anxiety and encourage confidence. Diagnostic and practice tests are administered to measure the student's readiness for the exam.

Health Unit Clerk/Coordinator

This program prepares students to work at nursing stations in a hospital or in other medical office situations which deal with patient care records. Students learn to transcribe doctors’ orders using basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and abbreviations.

This is an open entry-level program for prospective technicians. The program consists of four phases:

Machinist

This program prepares students for skilled positions as an entry-level manual machinist. Manual machinists are individuals who are able to set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Students will learn through hands-on projects and computer-assisted instruction, the basic skills needed to fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical and/or precision instruments. Employment may also include fabricating and modifying parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines.

Network Administrator (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator - MCSA)

The program provides the latest courses required by Microsoft for the MCTS and MCITP:SA certification titles.
