If you're a college student, the ability to spell correctly is such a fact of life that it's sometimes taken for granted. Perhaps you're wondering, just why might something like spelling be so important? Is it relevant in this day and age of texting shorthand and auto-fill? Author Jacques Bailly noted in his 2011 article, "Spelling is a Gateway... to Learning," published in The Chronicle of Higher Education (accessed in our library database, Academic Search Premier Ebscohost), spelling is not necessarily the end goal but it is a very important auxiliary skill.
